Isolation

We sit together, yet each in a separate world,

Phones in hand, faces glowing like stars,

We are friends, yet silence turns us strangers,

Words are buried, never leaving our mouths.

We spend time in glowing eyes, but our hearts are dark,

In the midst of sitting, texts on screens are what speak,

A smile, a glance, everything done in silence,

I want to say something, but it doesn't happen.

But technology doesn’t bring light to this darkness,

It’s a prison that locks us in a single mind,

We’re connected, yet in a senseless space,

In each chat, a world, but always alone.

The leaves don’t speak, only verbs on the keyboard,

We forget what it’s like to look each other in the eye,

Silence acts as a barrier that makes us hide,

Like a tall tree, we stand together, but we are weak.

Bodies together, yet causes come from someone else’s hands,

When technology makes people stop listening,

We lose words, we lose what is most precious,

Conversation, the essence of life, dying in the darkness.

We are human, but if we choose silence as our language,

Then technology will make us lose what is real.
